Christmas Message

THE CHRIST-LIFE MUST BE LIVED

Jesus Christ lived and symbolised divine consciousness. He was the very personification of divinity. He was born at a time when ignorance, superstition, greed, hatred and hypocrisy prevailed upon India, as elsewhere. The rulers were arrogant and unrighteous. The people were avaricious, indolent and heedless. Purity was forgotten. Morality was neglected. They were more intent upon worshiping mammon than adoring God. There was no idealism.

In the midst of these conditions, Christ was born and he worked a transformation in the lives of the people, though not quite successfully in his life time but through the following centuries by the means of his teachings. He gave a new spiritual turn to the lives of his fellow-men. Thus a new era dawned upon this world, and the teaching of Jesus spread far and wide.

Before discrimination and spiritual awakening dawn within the seeker, he has bigoted outlook, selfish tendencies and no thought for God or the higher divine life. He is then immersed in the pursuit of material interests. He is a slave of his senses. He has no spiritual ideal in life. He is desire-ridden. Arrogance, avarice and sensuality characterise his personality. He lives a life of lust, anger, greed, deluded attachment, pride, egoism and jealousy.

If this state of things must cease and the seeker must enter into a new life of spiritual aspiration, purity and devotion, then the Christ spirit must take its birth within one’s heart. That will be the real adoration of Jesus Christ. That will be the true following of Christianity. When the divine element that is dormant within us begins to express itself, then indeed we open ourselves to the grace of the Christ. From then onward light begins to shine where darkness was before. Ignorance gives place to the beginning of wisdom. Impurity is replaced by purity. Hatred ceases and love begins to blossom forth.

In his innermost core, man is essentially divine. But through the medium of the human personality two forces keep acting. They are the forces of good and evil, light and darkness. The divine and the undivine both operate in the human consciousness. To completely overcome and eradicate the undivine elements and to fully manifest the supreme divine Consciousness in all its radiant light and glory is to be achieved through the living of the Christ-life in the utmost faithful detail. That is spiritual life. That is Yoga. That is Sadhana. That is the path of Self-realisation.

If the Christ-life is to be lived, first of all the child Christ has to be born in our heart. Only then does the real spiritual life commence for the aspirant. The first manifestation of the divine urge to progress in the path of goodness and virtue and to cherish noble ideals and eradicate vicious, negative tendencies signifies the birth of the infant Jesus in our consciousness. From hence starts the living of the Christ-life in all its details of sublime purity, faith in divinity, mercy, compassion, love, selflessness, desirelessness, egolessness, forgiveness, prayerfulness and so on. Hence starts the life of earnest Yoga, of self-restraint and simplicity, of unbroken serenity and peace, tolerance, balance of mind in pleasure and pain, unflinching courage and determination, and perfect dedication to the worship of God through the service of humanity. This is the spiritual implication of all the celebrations connected with Jesus Christ. This is also the message of the Easter.

With the advent of this Christ-spirit within the heart of a truly earnest seeker, all mundane desires come to an end. There is a cessation of all vicious tendencies in him. He begins to influence others around him. The spirit of Jesus Christ emanates from him. Many are made aware of that spirit and a great deal of good is brought into their lives. Thus, if every individual begins to live a new life of divine aspiration, fellow-feeling and social service, spirituality will gradually overcome materialism. There will be more of goodwill, more of harmony and more of peace in this world. The tendency to help each other, to understand each other and to decrease avariciousness, selfishness and egoism will grow gradually in every sphere, which would mean greater happiness in every hearth and home.

Spiritual life is neither exclusively meant for the poor and the lowly, nor is it beyond the reach of the wealthy. To pursue the spiritual path one need not seek the undisturbed assurity of food and shelter. But there is a significant point in the birth of Jesus. He was born in a simple, lowly place, a corner of a stable. Also he was born in darkness, in the obscure hour of midnight, when no one even knew about it, except a few blessed souls. The significance here is that spiritual awakening comes to the seeker who is humble and meek and simple. The light of divine consciousness dawns only when the delusive glitters of material glamour and the corruptive influence of wealth are absent.

The quality of true humility is one of the indispensable fundamentals. Only when there are simplicity, holiness and renunciation of all earthly desires and the pride of learning, goodness and merit, the divine light manifests within. Even as Christ was born unknown to the world and in the obscurity of darkness, so also the advent of the Christ spirit takes place in the inwardness of the soul when there is total self-effacement and self-abnegation. Where the urge of aggrandizement and vanity abides, there divinity cannot unfold itself, for these expressions of egotism are permanent hindrances to any kind of spiritual growth. You can be sure, a man of vanity is far from God. A man of selfishness knows nothing of God. A man of intolerance has thoroughly misunderstood God. ‘Empty thyself and I shall fill thee’, is the advice of Jesus. The kingdom of heaven is surely for the humble in spirit.

It was this secret that centuries ago Jesus explained to Nicodemus. The good man did not quite understand what precisely Jesus meant. ‘How can it be? How can I be born again if I am to attain the Kingdom of God?’ Asked Nicodemus. Then Christ explained that this birth was an inward transformation, not of the body, but of the spirit. Such inner spiritual birth is essential if one truly wishes to know Jesus Christ.

May the true implication of the Christ-life dawn within every heart. Realise fully that so long as thirst of power and arrogance of wealth infect the nature of man, until then the spirit of Christ is out of reach. As with the individual, even so with the community and the nation. It is only when real spiritual transformation occurs in the hearts of the individuals that its effects can be felt in the nations of the world. Let every soul understand the duty of the human life. Let everyone cultivate a sense of brotherhood, tolerance, charity, humility, mutual understanding, love and compassion. Let everyone aspire for greater knowledge, greater enlightenment and greater goodwill. Let the sense of evolution and perfection be eternally progressive.

HEART AND SOUL

Heart and Soul
Open to All 11/11/2009

It was in 1985 that Protestant pastor Christian Führer put a simple sign outside his church, St Nikolai’s, in the industrial city of Leipzig in East Germany.

"Open to All," it said.

Little did he know that his church would grow into a focal point for the opposition.
Out of St Nikolai's came a movement which eventually helped bring down the Berlin Wall and the Communist regime.

20 years on, Kristine Pommert meets Christian Führer and other witnesses to find out whether without the church, the peaceful revolution would have been possible.

She also explores whether in a city where fewer than 1 in 5 people are church members, Christianity still has a role to play.

The LORD'S Day Vs Mother's Day

We prayed for our mothers on the Lord's Day (last Sunday May 10th 2009)

Just think a little bit deeper as a true Christian
Think about Jesus, who is the Lord of the Sabbath (Mark 2: 27)...Perhaps to whom the lord Buddha Gautama pointed Him to be the last Coming One (Pwin) after him (Gautama)
Think about how no Christian nation can escape from using Gregory Calendar today as follow

Before Jesus' Resurrection (just for comparison)
Monday Tuesday Wed Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday/Sabbath Day
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

After Jesus Resurrection (Today Gregory Calendar)
Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Sab/Saturday
1 2 3 4 5 6 7

Sunday then is a Resurrection Sabbath Day. But the meaning of the Sabbath has always been the same: True rest can only be found in Jesus Christ...Mark 11: 28-30

Think about how come the Seventh Day the First Day of the week (Gen 2: 2-3; Acts 20: 7; 1 Cor 16: 1-2)
Think about the Lord Jesus died on Friday
Think about the Lord Jesus of his resurrection after three days
Think about the first becomes the last, the last the first...so on

Think about the Sunday
As mentioned Sunday is the First Day of the week on the God-given Gregory Calendar for today,
It is a Day that on the first day of the week, when we were gathered together to break bread, Paul talked with them, intending to depart on the next day...Acts 20:7; 1Cor 4: 1-4; Rev 1: 10

In imitation of apostolic practice (not the Roman practice), we also gather on the first day of the week to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord from the dead and to find our rest in the work he has done (done by none of us)

Think about four distinct stages of Sabbath revelation.
The Creation Sabbath, the Exodus Sabbath (Exodus 20:8 remember-Deu 5:12-15 observe), the Resurrection Sabbath, and the Final Sabbath...Heb 4: 9
The first two stages are the Old Testament roots, and the last two are the New Testament flower and fruit
Here is a reminder for us that the OT is a preparation for the NT and the New Testament is the fulfillment of the Old Testament. Christians interpret the OT in the light of the New Testament as the Old Testament is a preparation for the NT

What is Sunday?
Sunday is the first week of the day. The first day of the week is the Resurrection rest, the New Covenant Sabbath.
Sunday is a Christian Sabbath because our Lord rose on the first day. The Old Covenant Sabbath is transformed into the New Covenant Sabbath (or Lord's Day) by the resurrection of the Lord of the Sabbath from the dead. As a Redeemer, he appointed it to be a sign of the covenant of his grace. The Sabbath is now, and always has been, the Lord's Day!
There can be no other days on the Lord's Day. Or it is impossible to make the Lord's Day for our days such as mothers day, fathers day, Judson day, MCC day, MBC day, ZBC day, Sunday School Day and all the days that are to come yet., etc...Sadly, these have been become most likely a substitute on the Lord's Day. So now is the best time we have to be careful in a conservative way of seeking for the most truth among this perverted generation, liberally. Because God said, "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God...." (Exodus 20: 8-11). So if we do really want to set apart a day for mothers in a special way, then we can appoint one out of the six those are given to us. Yet it is another thing if we want to celebrate commemoration for our mothers only on the Lord's Day (Sunday). It's just ok we just pray for them on the Lord's Day. We give them gifts on the Lord's Day. But still Sunday is for the Lord's Day. Sunday is the Lord's Day.

How did we spent our last Sunday May 10th 2009?
Well. We spent last Sunday primarily to worship God in singing, in prayer, in reading the scripture and in listening to His Word being preached to us each in our Church and in Philippine Myanmar Christian Fellowship as far as the past Sunday (the Lord's Days) are concerned. Everyone of us knows that we are not worshiping the day. We are worshiping God in His own appointed day, a day that is the 7th day out of six. We have the six day with us. But the only one day of the first day of the week (Sunday) is for the Lord. And it is always be the Lord's Day. Neither mothers nor fathers day. Sunday is a day that is set apart for the Lord. So don't never forget if you are a true Christian that Sunday is the Lord's Day in which we can pray and celebrate for those whom we concern instead. It is nothing wrong though we celebrate our appreciation/ commemoration for mothers in the Lord's Day. But it has something become conspiracy of Satan when we fail to say Mothers' Day instead of saying the Lord's Day. Because what you have used to say will conspire you from your Christian standing point. Thus you will be failing from keeping the Lord's Day holy. Because the Lord's Day is a day to listen his holy Word from the Scripture. It is a day for the Lord Jesus Christ not for men. The Lord's Day can be kept holy by way of Christ Center Preaching and by way of Christ Center Listening or by way of Christ Center reading the Bible. Paul said in Galatians 1: 10 that For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

It is not our mothers' day in which we worship God
It is the Lord's Day in which we can celebrate our mothers' being good to us. We want to express mothers' love and care for their children as a special occasion one in a year. And this special occasion falls on Sunday (the Resurrection Day) so that we can give thanks to the Lord on His Day for giving us good mothers who will care for us. It is not mothers' Day in which we worship the Lord. Rather it is the Lord's Day in that day we can celebrate and express our gratefulness for our mothers in return. Note: This special occasion (mothers' day) that falls on Sunday is appointed by men not by God.

It is the Lord day in which we celebrate and express our gratitude for our mothers in return
Thanks the Lord for granting us and enabling our hearts to be thankful for our mothers in His Day.
We prayed for our mothers and gave thanks to the Lord on His Day, last Sunday May 10, 09.
We thank the Lord for our mothers
But, let's also pray for those mothers and fathers with their sons and daughters who cannot worship God on the Lord's Day (Sunday) like those are in Middle East among Muslim and among the Jews especially those are under serious persecution.

However,
Let's us continue to say the Lord's Day as Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Heb 13: 8)

Let's not forget that it is still the Lord's Day even though we fail to say Mothers Day or Fathers' Day or...or...or. ..

Let's keep our tongues holy on the Lord's Day. Don't say something of such and such a day! Keep quiet! Sunday is the Lord's Day. It is none of us day. We are celebrating his resurrection on Sunday. A Sunday that has become the Christian Sabbath because of the transition point of Jesus' Death and Resurrection!

Yours in Christ,

Brother DAL

Mother's Day Peom by Vawkuu

“My Mom’s Love”L. Van Cin Thang

Days and months have passed by
And time may heal a missing heart.
But at the thought of you, time can’t erase,
For it is a heart with a genuine love for a son.

The experiences reveal your lovely face,
Natures remind me of your tender care.
And, your kind holding hand and embraces
In your arm, I’m most comfy.

Mom’s inner aspiration for a son
Godly way of life, It was Mom’s inner wish.
Equipping with the living Word of God,
The erudition from above, it is a better way for me.

The most costly, Mom’s prayer
With the purest heart of faith, I’m reconstructed.
The highest valued, Mom’s admonition,
It smoothes son’s ways, and paves a way of success.

God heard, Of Mom’s entreaty
With the deepest devotion, experiences testify so.
Wish you were here, To tell you All,
For the kindest voice, I’ve ever heard.

Your being there, being by my side,
I’m built with Word of wisdoms.
I’m strengthened emotionally, mentally.
I feel the best by your love around me.

A thousand thanks, being my Mom,
And the unique love and sweet prayer,
O my own Mom dear, it is you, the only one
I ever own, so the whole world does.
You’re my mom, I love you.

Voices from Some OT Prophets

.

It is observed from the creation story (before Abraham was called) that God had been revealed with Adam and Eve, then Noah. With Noah God made special covenant what He likes and His instructions (Gen 9:1ff.). Abraham was called round about 1900 BC only after human history was civilized. Especially ancient Babylonian Empire and Egyptian Empire have been so great and powerful in human history with civilization. It is to say that they were developing under God's presence for a long time before Abraham was called. We cannot exclude them out of God's purpose and work.

.

God made His revelation and His way more completely by calling Abraham. So Abraham was the one who manifested God's law better than the other ancient peoples before him. The history of human religion before Abraham shows that every religion or cult turns to truth and encouraged to do good deeds. The punishment is obvious as a result of sin and wickedness. Even in Israelite history (after Abraham), the same result was evidently occurred throughout their history.

.

After Abraham, Jesus Christ is the manifestation of God (i.e., ultimate revelation and most authentic) as we firmly believe it today. It is the fulfillment and final authenticity as Jesus had told the Jews (Matt 5:17) … "For I do not come to exterminate but to fulfill your religion." Between Abraham and Jesus Christ there were revelations and manifestations of God through Zoroaster (in the time of King Darius of Persia), through Buddha in India, and through Confucius of China, etc. They all turned and subjected to the universal truth and holiness. Exceptionally Muhammad appeared with the same status after Jesus Christ. But all of them who bore God's revelations were purely men and none of them claim their deity. But Jesus Christ is the real incarnation of God—for He himself claimed His deity. This claim is undeniable truth scripturally, historically, logically and chronologically. Therefore the revelation of God can be outlined as follow chronologically:

  • God revealed / spoke through / with Adam and Eve

  • God revealed through Ancient peoples

  • God revealed through Abraham

  • God revealed through Buddha, Zoroaster, and so on

  • God revealed through Jesus of Palestine, then

  • God revealed through Muhammad of Arab.

.

Each of all revelations is credible to the truth, holiness, etc. which are attributes of God. But at this point we must be cautious the fact that Jesus is the most authentic and God incarnated. Even Mohammedans who are adherents of the last revelation of God as stated above, confess that Jesus was sinless, most high and eminent teacher. The Koran says in Surah 33:69—Jesus is "illustrious in this world and the next. Jesus is superior to all other prophets."

.

Jesus required all people strikingly to confess, to know that He was God's Son. None of other religious founders and their sacred scriptures exclaimed that the founder is God's begotten Son but Jesus alone. Kuran says again, "Jesus was raised again after his death and ascended to heaven" (Surah 3:55). In other words, the last revelation and manifestation of God through Mohammad confessed Jesus' deity. It is, therefore logically true, chronologically coincided and relevant. It could now be concluded that Jesus is the most unique and the real incarnation of God for He requested the disciples to teach his uniqueness to all the nations (Matt 28:19-20). Bearing this in mind, it is logical and good to believe that all faiths will confess Jesus' deity before the end of the world (i.e., before eschatology).

.

Now Let us try to explore the teachings from some biblical messages into our consideration with regard to our perspectives on salvation. The chosen texts are intended to help us for our exploration.

.

1) Psalms 24:3-5

"Who has the right to go up the Lord's hill? Who may enter his holy temple? Those who are pure in act and in thought, … the Lord will bless them and save them; God will declare them innocent."

.

Ancient cults (religions) have their own ritual forms, liturgical system, and adore to God. Especially Israelites were the chosen people and they have given special observation and covenant, ritual system, etc. to Yahweh. Any how, in Psalms the Psalter clearly gives us the real status and standpoint which we should observe now. Since God is just and righteous, Psalms 24:3-5 encourages us to be pure in our action, and in our thought. We can put this verse contemporary to our day and it should deal within our political, economic, and social situations to a pure actions and thoughts. This and below statements could be assumed as the way of salvation shown before Christ.

.

2) Amos 5:21-24

The Lord says, "I hate your religious festivals; I cannot stand them! When you bring me burnt-offerings, I will not accept them; I will not accept … Stop your noisy songs; I do not want to listen to your harps. In stead, let justice flow like a stream, and righteousness like a river that never goes dry."

.

Amos was a prophet when Israel was in prosperous and has a pride for her economy. And there was social evil, economical oppression; lawlessness and ignorance of Yahweh's covenant. The merchants were in high estate and the poor were in low estate. There was no justice and righteousness; peace and joy, love and charity. The Israelites were lost from what God wills them to do and the purpose of being God's chosen nation. They lost from the way of salvation. Therefore Amos strongly argued against such kind of situations, with the proclamation of justice and righteousness as the real worship of Yahweh instead of worldly prosperity (v. 21-23).

.

In the story of relationship between Abraham and God we remarkably observe that God does not want Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac nor animals. Instead, God want to sacrifice his heart, his being. The writer of Proverbs clearly taught us again to sacrifice our heart, not our material things and superficial sacrifices. But inner sacrifices—Proverbs 23:26 says "My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways" (cf. Joel 2:13). To compare this verse to the New Testament, the same request is obvious in Romans 12:1—"… by the mercy of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship."

.

3) Habakkuk 2:4

"And this is the message: those who are evil will not survive, but those who are righteous will live because they are faithful to God."

.

Like Jeremiah, Habakkuk complains injustices. Hab 1:2-4—"… How can you endure to look on such wrong doings?… amidst fighting and quarrelling everywhere. The law is weak and useless, and justice is never done. Evil men get the better of the righteous, and so justice is perverted." Hab 1:13—"Your eyes are too holy to look at evil, and you cannot stand the sight of people doing wrong. So why are you silent while they destroy people who are more righteous than they are?"

.

For such questions to God Habakkuk was clearly answered that righteousness and faithfulness is the way to liberation (2:4c). The précis ministry of Jeremiah and his answers from God are like Habakkuk. The core and motif of their ministry is to oppose such kind of injustices, wickedness, etc. and to proclaim and to promote liberation from such aggression and gloom. We can compare such situations with our situation nowadays. This is the thing Christians must try to liberate faithfully like preceding liberators of the Old Testament.

.

By observing the above mentioned passages faithfulness and justice are obvious as the most important elements for our salvation/liberation. The study of the life of Daniel (the Book of Daniel) also reveals faithfulness as the greatest core and signal in Daniel's life. By his faithfulness God made him as a witness before the cruel kings. At this point if Daniel was unfaithful, no significant power will be found upon him. Faithfulness and righteousness, justice are inseparable elements as peace and justice are inseparable qualities. Faithfulness throughout the cruel kingdom, wicked ages, and impressions, etc. has been the way of salvation which the Old Testament prophets displayed before Christ.

.

4) Matthew 5:8, 9.

"Happy (Blessed RSV) are the pure in heart; they will see God." "Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children."

.

These verses (Sermon on the Mount) are the pivotal scripture throughout Christian history. Especially Monasticism firmly held and follows it strictly and Monastic Christian reached its peak with so many scholars and theologians. In Christian history the Monasticism movement is the backbone and monumental headstone. Because the monks in Monasteries were working incredibly, they worked not only for spiritual growth but also for physical, educational, economical uplifts. Even secular historians acknowledged that the agricultural restoration of the largest part of Europe has to be attributed to them. They are the main instruments in reforming European society and many colleges of education and workshops were the result of their works.

.

It is clear enough at this stage what was meant by salvation throughout the history of Christian era. Today a number of Christians claim not to serve worldly matters and not to engage with such worldly things but only spiritual matters. In a real sense they need to know the very fact how Christian history had developed through Christian monasteries as said above. As Ganhdi said, we must behave a Christ-like life with faithfulness, pure acts and thought, and work for peace and justice. The monks in monasteries practiced Christ-like life and worked hardly for the Kingdom, not for the Church; and make peace and justice, and also for worldwide development.

.

5) Matthew 9:9-13.

"As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew (in Luke-Levi) sitting at the tax office; … he followed him. And … why your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?" … "those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, I desire mercy, and not sacrifice. For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."

"Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? … And the King will answer them, "Truly, I say to you as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me" (Matt 25:37-40).

"The blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them." (Matt 11:5)

.

By studying these messages we can assume the fact that the very focus here is Jesus' salvavic work that has begun within and by the oppressed, the poor, etc.—that Judaism was and is not the real essence of religious standpoint but worldly. This is and that was obviously appeared in our history that the true, real, and one authentic reality or essence of religion comes out of the outcasts, not from the luxurious, prosperous situation. This way of living is taught by Jesus and manifested by his life as Islamic faith confessed him as the greatest ethical teacher.

.

Nowadays in the 21st century and onward Christians should not be exclusive minded. If we really ambitious to win people to God, we must rather infiltrate them inclusively with Christ-like life and faithfulness to the truth. Jesus Christ indeed did not commission us to live exclusively but to serve amidst dangerous environments and situation. For he said, "I send you out as a sheep into the wolf" (Luke 10:3); and "I was sent only to the lost …" (Matt 15:24).

Charge to PMCF Graduating Students

MY DEAR GRADUATES

Congratulations!

Scholars in our PMCF family, who have graduated, are graduating, and will graduate in this year 2009; many joys and thrills are shared with you all as you culminate your studies with success and happiness here in Philippines. With one heart and voice we say, “CONGRATULATIONS!” to you all.

You have experienced many trials; you have seen God meet your needs and prayers. This alone is your personal growth in your relationship with God. As you enter your field of work for God, each lesson you have learned in school and daily life will make you a better, stronger, and successful worker for Christ in the future.

We, on behalf of Philippine Myanmar Christian Fellowship, trust each one of you will become a spiritual leader, one with conviction and will stand for truth, a leader who has a vision to do more for God. Our country needs Christian faithful leaders and waiting leaders and we strongly believe each one of you have potential to occupy that position.

Our prayer is that the Lord will bless you and use you for His glory wherever you serve Him. Our utmost wish and prayer also is that by your wisdom and commitment, wisdom and knowledge, love and zeal, service and ministry, the people of Myanmar will be richly blessed. We hold and lift up our hands and hearts together with yours as you prepare to serve the Lord.

May peace and goodwill from the Lord be with you all, our graduate scholars!

Prayerfully,

REV. CIN KHAN VUM
PRESIDENT, PMCF
